More Efficency - Micro-layer corrosion protection systems for use in the automobile industry are not only required to be high performing, environmentally compatible and globally available. In a difficult market environment with increasing pressure of costs for all market participants, efficiency and economy are decisive factors.

Corrosion Protection Concept for Brake Disks - A new, cost-saving coating system is now available for brake disks. The coating system can be cured at room temperature, thus saving time and energy costs.

Seeing Chances in Change - Switching to chromium(VI)-free corrosion protection systems involves a complex co-ordination process and the precise analysis of individual cases. However, in many cases it also leads to more high performance coatings. A positive side effect that is sure to be of interest to many industrial sectors.

Second International Symposium on Microlayer Corrosion Protection Systems - Dörken MKS-Systeme GmbH & Co. KG held its second international symposium on microlayer corrosion protection systems (MKS) at the Westfalenhallen Congress Centre in Dortmund on 27th and 28th October 2005. The 250 symposium attendees, from more than ten different countries, were presented with an extensive programme of talks and presentations. The core of the symposium, however, was dedicated to the differentiated requirement profile I and the broad application spectrum of chromium (VI)-free zinc lamella systems.

Coatings suitable for coping with extreme exposure - Bolted connections used in wind energy plants are subject to complex stresses and hence need to be constructed to withstand these by correspondingly adapting the design of the individual components and by using specialist coating processes. This, in turn, can only be achieved through close collaboration between bolt and coating manufacturers.

Reliable protection for fasteners - Volkswagen and General Motors have recently approved a third generation, high-performance chromium (VI)-free microlayer corrosion-protection system (MKS) that complies with their material specifications TL 245 (VW) and GM 3359 respectively for protecting metric threaded parts made of high-strength steel against corrosion. This non-electrolytically applied zinc-flake coating provides reliable protection where standard methods, such as hot dip galvanizing and electroplating cannot be used for technical reasons.

Multifunctional protection - Steel has got a vast range of characteristics that make it ideally suited for a broad range of applications. Whenever components are manufactured from materials other than stainless steel, the question of whether and how to protect them against corrosion becomes crucial. A well-proven corrosion protection method - in particular with regard to high-strength steel - is the use of zinc lamella systems with and without topcoats.

High-Performance Coatings for Mass-Produced parts - Corrosion and its consequences impair the safety, cost-effectiveness and durability of metallic structural components and workpieces. In Germany alone, the total cost of damage due to corrosion every year runs to billions of euro. For this reason, metallic mass-produced parts must be protected.

Custom Made Corrosion Protection - The legally required elimination of chromium (VI)-containing coatings represents an opportunity to optimise existing surface protection properties and develop new ones.
